Vox Pops

I carried out a vox pops for my music video to receive additional feedback. 

Updated Ident

This is my improved ident.

In this improved ident I drew the frames for the shots and made sure they were consistent with the themes of the channel such as music, talk shows and sit-coms, I then took images of all the individual frames and put them into a sequence, as the images were black and white I added some colour overlays in time with the beat to create a more colourful and vibrant edit to relate to the target audience more effectively. The song I used was a modern remix of an older song, this shows how the channel can bring life and excitement back into older things. Finally I chose a simple bold font to show the title 'The Grid' this works well as it's simple and gets to the point meaning its easier for the audience to take in and remember.

Ident Decisions

During the production of my ident I realised that it is difficult to animate the shape of the paper during the transitions from one form to another, to overcome this I had to simplify the animation and remove some of the transformations and then attempt to re-create them in the editing process. Because of this the final ident differs from the original plans in many ways. I found that some of the other aspects of my ident were not practical and very difficult to replicate in real life. Because of this I used my additional feedback from after the ident was produced to make changes to the plans and to re-produce an improved ident.

I maintained the concept of using paper and stop-motion to produce the animation, however due to the difficulties I experienced in my previous ident I decided to create an ident based on the theme of flip books, this allows the movement of the paper to be simplified making the photography easier, also the themes and concepts of the channel can be more clearly portrayed through the drawings on the paper itself.

To create my ident I first formed the set, which consisted of the white background and the backdrop of 'The Grid', I then created all of the props and origami figures which I animated in the ident. First I took the pictures and moved the props a tiny bit and then continued until I had all of the shots I needed including the closing shot of the logo and some of the figures. 

I then looked on YouTube for an upbeat song with a reasonably fast beat and downloaded it and then loaded that up into the editing software. I imported all of the photos onto my computer and then loaded them into the editing software.

I adjusted the length of each shot so they lasted roughly 1-3 frames so that the cut between each shot would be very smooth. I then positioned the shots in time with the music and rendered the video. I then re-imported the rendered video back into the software to apply the effects. 

On the first part of the ident with the origami flashing on and off screen I used a hue effect to alter the colour so it looked like different coloured pieces of paper was used in the animation. I then used some cross-fade transitions so the different objects flowed into each other. I then used an iris transition along with a colour adjusting effect to create a bright burst effect. Lastly I used the pan/crop tool to zoom into the final shot and then faded to black.

Only a small amount of space is needed to set up the camera along with the set for the animation so being limited to small amounts of space isn't a huge problem. 

Music

• For the music in my ident I decided to choose Breezeblocks, this song is relatively modern and has a much calmer tone which works well with the overall composition of my ident. The music will still engage with the younger target audience and also relate to the musical aspect of the channel.

Ident 3 Planning

This is my idea for my third ident

Music

• The music in this ident will be a dubstep song, this would work well as parts of the ident will have good timing with the drop in the song as well as the music attracting the target audience and giving them an insight into the nature of the channel. The music will be very upbeat creating a very enthusiastic happy tone which will work well with the ident.

• For my music and sound ideas, i have chose very upbeat modern music as it will attract the target audience as well as relating to the channel as it broadcasts music videos. The song i chose for this ident was Anything could happen, i chose this as it fits in with the genre i wanted as well as having lyrics which work well with the channel as Grid would be a channel full of suprises where anything could happen.
