Using my storyboards and paper edit

These are photos of me editing while using my storyboards and paper edit, they allowed me to maintain the continuity of my music video and made sure all my shots were in the correct order to achieve what I originally intended.

 Chains would be needed to emphasise that the goths are slaved and that they have little power or control over the situation they are in. Old style chains to also relate to the time period

Roman styled swords relates to time period and also shows who are the soldiers within the situation. Swords may be used for the execution of the son etc.

fake blood may be needed for some scenes to help visualise the gory nature of some parts of the scene

Analysis of feedback

After receiving and collating all of the feedback I had gained through various methods I began to analyse it to gather an understanding of what parts of the video individuals thought worked well. But also to see what essential areas would need to be improved if I was going to make a music video again or improve the current version.

Research Collated

I collated all of the research based upon the feedback I received for my final music video.

Firstly I asked a group of individuals to watch the music video, I then carried out a focus group and asked them a few questions about it. This was useful as it gave them the oppertunity to fully qualitatively discuss their views on the video, as well as discuss between them their thoughts. 

  
 I then used a questionnaire to recieve further in-depth feedback on my music video.

 I also sent the YouTube link of the music video to multiple individuals allowing them to comment or message me their thoughts based upon it which was useful for gaining a greater perspective upon what areas could be improved.



Adam: Positive aspects of music video:

- Colours and theme of video were fitting to song i.e. the use of black and white being prominent throughout the video helped emphasise the theme of ‘smoke’ and also the use of colour later in the video
- Clever use of focussing in certain shots, especially in relation to the lyrics.
- Setting of video suited the genre of the song
- Unique shots were taken e.g. the worm wriggling around in the mud.
- Interesting use of first person perspectives
- Multiple uses of various special effects added to viewing experience

Negative aspects of the music video:

- Some of the lip syncing was not entirely in sync or clear
- Story behind the video is slightly confusing.
- More syncing could have been included e.g. percussion
- The big use of special of effects with Andy at the end of the video is slightly out of place and odd


Jamie: -A very well made and interesting video overall - the changing between shots matches the pace of the music and the use of special effects makes it captivating.
-The filter provides clarity between what's real and what's being dreamt, making it easy to follow


Carys: -great balance of cut away shots and non-cut away
- could've worked on better lip synching but again that's my fault sooooo
-like editing wise
-lots of methods of shots used
-it fits the eerieness of the song with all the effects and stuff
-especially as your editing n shots get more intense when the music does

I carried out a questionnaire to receive feedback for my music video, I handed it to individuals who were free at the time and asked them to complete it after watching the music video. Here are some of the results.

Summary of production research

I carried out research primarily focusing on the costs of production of my music video. This allowed me to have greater preparation and consideration of the costs and their implications on my budget for the music video.

Summary of market research

For my market research I focused mainly on the views of other songs from similar artists on YouTube as this is where the music video will be viewed by the majority of people so it is useful being able to have an estimate for the amount of attention it will receive. I also looked at the different areas to advertise the music video, and which forms would be most appropriate to attract the target audience.

Summary of audience research

After carrying out my audience research through multiple research methods such as audience questionnaires and focus groups I found lots of useful information that assisted me in the production of my music video. The information I found includes the following.

Music Video Styles

This is my Prezi for music video styles.

Using a Prop/Costume list

Having a clear list of all the props and costumes required for the music video allowed me to have a clear idea of budgeting for the music video, making any additional costs apparent. Also, having control over the costumes of the cast allowed me to make them visually represent the characters that they are trying to portray. For example, the actor who played the ghost character was wearing black and white clothes to emphasise the eerie mood that I wanted him to create.

Casting decisions

When it came to deciding my cast, I chose individuals based upon their individual capabilities and also their likeness to the role they needed to fulfill. The female character would need to be able to sing and also play guitar for the performance shots within the narrative. Due to this, I chose an individual who was able to fit these requirements. Also, I chose someone who visually represented the smoke-like character through the narrative. I also had to consider their availability during the filming of the music video, making sure that all members of the cast are available on the dates set for the filming schedule so that I will be able to keep up to date with the project. 

Using the location visit sheet

The location visit details allowed we to know exactly where I would be filming on each day, this meant that all members of the cast would be able to arrive to the location on time so that we could stick to a schedule and get all of the shots filmed on time. Also, having previous knowledge of the location enabled me to have a better idea of the arrangement of the cast within the set which benefited me as it meant that my storyboards were clearer and I could easily explain what I wanted to the cast members.

Using the risk assessment

By carrying out a risk assessment it allowed me to analayse all of the possible situations that could occur when filming in each of the chosen locations. It then further allowed me to take into consideration any precautions that would need to be carried out in the case of an accident. This will help on the day of filming to reduce the amount of possible health and safety issues but to also be able to respond to them appropriately to reduce the impact of any event.
